1920 Silver Ghost Doctor's Coupe.
Chassis number 49RE
Registration number NE177
A beautiful Doctor's Coupé by Danish coach builders Dansk Karosserie Fabrik. The body was made originally for Chassis number 5CB & was built & fitted to that Chassis in 1926/7. Thereafter it was transferred to 49RE & is as we find the car today.
The car is presented in excellent condition with a soft patina that comes from years of sparing use. Paintwork is overall very good with just a little chipping to the door tops. The body is burgundy & the wings black.
A massive expenditure was undertaken in 1992 with the engine undergoing a £30,303 rebuild by J.N. Harley engineering. Between May 1994 and May 2002, J.N. Harley undertook further restoration works, items receiving attention including the shock absorbers, brakes, running boards, fuse box, hubs, magneto, dynamo, under-trays, steering box, fuel tank, universal joints, crown wheel/pinion, axles, wheels, road springs, carburettor, wiring and clutch, plus general servicing at a cost of circa £27,000. In addition there are bills dated 2000 from Enfield Auto Electrical Ltd for works to the instruments, lights, interior, dashboard, stove enamelling, etc totalling £4791. As well as the aforementioned bills, '49RE' comes with copy chassis cards, original owner's handbook, Swansea V5 and a quantity of expired MoTs dating back to 1992.
The interior of the car is cord cloth in good condition with leather to the dickey seat area. The hood is patinated leather which easily folds down for alfresco motoring. Twin side mount spares sit on the running boards. To the rear is a period luggage trunk with three fitted suitcases.
All in all a beautiful rare Ghost ready for the summer season!
