1926 Rolls Royce 20hp Barker all weather cabriolet

A magnificent 20hp in utterly original condition.

The car is illustrated in colour on page 269 of John Fasal's Book "The Rolls-Royce 20."

Coachwork is by renowned coach builders Barker & Co. The body is interestingly finished in a faux wood finish; in this case oak, with incredible attention having gone into the wood graining including areas of simulated quarter sawn wood exhibiting splendid medullary rays as found in finest English oak. The faux finish was applied from new & even covers the petrol tank!!

The hood is a very unusual & probably unique three position fully collapsing affair in the style of a salamanca. It boasts a miniscule window to the rear. It can be used in three modes: Fully closed, with the front rolled back sedanca style or fully open. The hood is of original leather but quite supple & in good condition. The central pillars fold down to give unimpeded views from the rear.

The car has had major works done to the engine internals & is running is sweetly as any 20hp I have ever encountered. The slightest nudge on the starting handle is enough to stir her into life & she settles down from cold & runs in uncanny silence. The car drives as well as any pre war Rolls I have driven. Taut suspension, play free steering & impeccable road manners pulling smoothly in top from the lowest of speeds.

The car was ordered new By one Lucy Stuttard, the daughter of a wealthy cotton spinner. She owned the car for 40 years until her death in 1964. Since then it has clearly been cherished & impeccably maintained & preserved.

The car retains its original leather to the front & door cards & is absolutely correct in all its details. The rear is wool cloth with a similar lining inside the hood. It has straight sided 32 x 4" tyres with twin spare side mounts. The lamps are Barkers patented dipping units. The division is in full working order with a small speaking porthole located behind the drivers hear. Best to leave it closed as it blows a draft directly to the rear of ones head when open.

The original inspection lamp is tucked up under the dash in its appointed place. A single occasional chair folds out in the rear on the drivers side.

I have to again stress how utterly original & untouched this car is. It is in completely time warp condition & would be a piece of note in any collection. It is an opportunity which will not be repeatable.
