A magnificent Springfield Phantom 1 in left hand drive. The car was ordered new by a St Louis based financier, one Edwin D. Levinson. He must have been good at his job as he had not one but two of these cars & ran them concurrently. The chassis records indicate that at some time during his ownership the bodies on the two cars were swapped. Thus the car now comes to us with the Huntingdon sedanca body that replaced the original Avon body. These works were completed in 1937.
Much recent engine work has been undertaken at vast expense, including line boring the crank, fitting of new pistons, new head etc etc etc. Thus the engine is in superb order & runs with the sewing machine quietness & precision for which these cars are justly famous. The car has covered but minimal mileage since the works were undertaken. In addition to engine work, there are massive bills on file for assorted works to chassis, one shot lubrication system, king pins etc etc etc. Clearly a well maintained vehicle.
The interior is unmarked button leather in biscuit to the front & wool cloth to the rear. All interior upholstery & headlining has clearly been quite recently replaced. Twin occasional seats fold out from the rear bulkhead. Wood work is well figured walnut & again in generally good order.
The paintwork is very tidy. Photographs with the car show the front wings to have been recently removed, correctly lead loaded & then resprayed prior to re-fitting.
Under the bonnet the car is detailed in a manner commensurate with the money spent on it. Very tidy & very clean, close to show quality.
Being left hand drive the car is well suited to continental touring. The three speed 'box is smooth & precise; the ride taut & supple. All in all a beautiful car with all the major work done, ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. The car is located near Boston Linc's & may be viewed there by appointment.
