1930 Rolls Royce 20/25 Landaulette by Connaught.
Chassis Number GSR42
Engine Number V7M
Registration number RX8337 (Original).
Ordered by Major the Count Gurnowski of Woolhampton Park near Reading on the 29th May 1930; he ordered a Landaulette body with division from The Connaught Motor & Carriage Co Ltd, which the car wears to this day.The car was specified with C type steering rake, all nickel silver fittings, & fold out occasional seats. Connaught bodied only 25 of this model, making this one of the few remaining examples.
In the 1990s the car was the subject of a meticulous restoration including a bare metal respray in Regency blue & Dove grey. The engine underwent a full rebuild including a new aluminium cylinder head, new copper tubes to the cylinder block, descaling where required, a re-cored radiator, & new water pump etc. The rear hubs were rebuilt & the interior upholstered in Connolly leather.
The next owner, one Mr Cartmell, had the front axle completely rebuilt in 2004 by Fiennes Engineering. This included a new front brake cross shaft, oversize king pins, new bearings/bushes & new one shot oiling pipe work. The clutch at the same time was re-built & a new thrust bearing fitted. At the same time the car underwent a complete re-wire.
Lastly a new motoring trunk was manufactured in such a manner as to allow the landaulette roof to fold down almost flat, giving the driver an unobstructed rear view, unusual in a landaulette. The tools are contained therein. The water temperature gauge was rebuilt & re-calibrated in 2007.
The car is complete & ready for use with just about everything having been done. It starts instantly, idles smoothly & drives beautifully with easy gear changes. With a spacious rear cabin, good headroom, easy access & excellent visibility it lends itself well for use as a very special wedding car.
This car is an exceptional vehicle and well worth the asking price. It has been used sparingly and has always been garaged, forming part of a collection.. It can be viewed in Yeovil , Somerset, by prior appointment.
