1937 Freestone & Webb top hat brougham open drive.
A rare & stylish car in the style of a Brougham with opening roof to front section. Superb razor edge details.
The car has just arrived & is being serviced. After service it goes to trim to have the front seats recovered as they are past saving. Aside from this the car is wonderfully original.
When new the car was purchased by 101 Dalmatians author Miss Dodie Smith. A diligent girl, she had the car regularly serviced at the Rolls-Royce Cricklewood service depot as the assorted records attest, right from the start of ownership. After 3 years the car was shipped with her to America via New York according to the US customs paperwork that comes with the car. Additionally the original Rolls-Royce guarantee comes with the car in a frame. £7 pounds & 16 old shillings was the cost of a service in those days!!!
The exterior grey paint is in generally good order all round. The rear cloth interior is also good with just a little tidying required. Likewise the engine bay is tidy. We collected the car & drove it 300 miles to our premises. It pulls strongly & has tight play free steering. We know the car has done just a couple of hundred miles during the last 20 or so years of ownership. Prior to that it was stored long term, giving credence to the indicated 66,000 miles. The pedal rubbers appear original & have minimal wear on them. You have to drive this car to appreciate just how good it is. 55-60 is its natural gait, with 70 easily attainable.
We are currently doing the tappets, fitting new points & plugs etc so the car will be presented MOT'd & ready to go. More pictures will follow once trim is complete etc. The price will also increase by £2K to cover trim cost.
